Option C — Compromise: Samitier + Vall de Boí only

Zaragoza → Graus → Castillo de Samitier → Boí → Taüll → Erill la Vall → Zaragoza

The "quality over coverage" option: instead of thinly sampling both the eastern (Vall de Boí / Vielha / La Seu) and western (castles / Navarra) clusters, this drops the western cluster entirely and the far-east extension (Vielha, La Seu) too, leaving room to actually linger at the two single highest-priority items — the Samitier sunset hike and the Vall de Boí churches + Pessó lakes hike — without a rushed schedule or long final driving day.

Why this one

If the honest goal is "do the favourite (Samitier) and the richest single cluster (Vall de Boí) properly" rather than "see as much of the Pyrenees as possible," this is probably the better route, not just a smaller one. It gives:

  • A real, unrushed evening at Castillo de Samitier for the hike + sunset drone flight, without needing to be somewhere else the next morning.
  • Two full days for Boí, Taüll, and Erill la Vall — enough to actually do the Sant Martí → Pessó lakes hike (3–6 hours) on one day and the three churches at an unhurried pace on another, rather than squeezing both into one day.
  • A shorter final drive back to Zaragoza than Option A (real-routed: 238 km / ~3h15 from Erill la Vall, vs. 281 km / ~3h48 from La Seu in Option A) — though Option B's final leg (153 km / ~2h24 from Leyre) is actually the shortest of the three, so this isn't the lightest possible finish, just lighter than Option A's.

Trade-off: this option does not reach Vielha, La Seu d'Urgell, or the confirmed Ball Cerdà — nor the Aragón castles, Valle de Tena activities, or Isaba/Leyre. It's a deliberate narrowing, not a compromise that samples everything a little.

Rough pacing (fits comfortably in fewer than 9 days — flexible)

Real road-routed distances/times below (via OSRM) — a routing-engine estimate, not checked against live traffic or actual mountain-pass conditions in late summer.

Day Leg Real drive time Notes
1 Zaragoza → Graus 156 km, ~2h03
2 Graus → Samitier 38 km, ~44 min Arrive with time to spare before the sunset hike.
3 Samitier → Boí 101 km, ~1h33
4 Boí area Pessó lakes hike (full day).
5 Boí → Taüll → Erill la Vall 8.5 km + 5.3 km Churches, unhurried — villages are minutes apart.
6 Erill la Vall → Zaragoza 238 km, ~3h15

Total driving: ≈547 km / ~7h54 across the loop — the shortest total of the three real-routed options (vs. ~11h16 for Option A, ~10h52 for Option B), leaving slack days free for whichever event dates (confirmed or not) end up mattering once the trip window is actually locked.
