Top picks¶
No routes/paths are drawn here deliberately — this page is about what and how much, not in what order; see the Proposed plan for the two dated day-by-day variants (Vall de Núria vs Ordesa) these feed into, and WIP plans for the earlier options.
Every real destination in the Proposed plan is below. Some stops on that route are deliberately not here, because they're beds and road-heads rather than places we go for something: Queralbs (where the road to Núria ends), Àger, Aínsa, Huesca, and Zaragoza (the flight hub, plus Alessio's last two solo days).
Elisabeth - top picks¶
Extracted from this GMaps bookmarked collection.
- Vall de Núria — added 26 Aug 2026; now the first touring stop (Sat 29 Aug). No road in — rack railway or the Camí Vell on foot.
- Ordesa Valley (Pradera de Ordesa) — dropped from the route (too far, too tight once Núria went in); kept as an alternative
- Ermita de San Úrbez — goes with Ordesa, so off the route too
- Sant Martí de les Tombetes
- Benabarre — genealogy: Josep Llena Canadell died here
- Congost de Mont-Rebei
- Església de Sant Climent de Taüll
- Castillo de Samitier
- Castillo de Montearagón
- Castillo de Loarre
- La Seu d'Urgell — cathedral, Museu Diocesà, Carrer dels Canonges, and the Festa Major / Ball Cerdà; confirmed music event, on the proposed route

Alessio - favourites¶
- Wingfoil (Castelldefels) — booked outbound flight lands 26 Aug, 2 solo days here before meeting Elisabeth (Shaka Surf / Escola Garbí — Mojokite ruled out)
- Castillo de Loarre
- Castillo de Montearagón
- Castillo de Samitier — favourite; hike up and fly the drone at sunset
- Església de Sant Climent de Taüll
- Boí — on the way to Taüll
- Erill la Vall — on the way to Taüll
- Monasterio de San Salvador de Leyre
Alessio - interested¶
Still nice, add if it fits — not worth compromising the favourites list for.
- Alquézar
- Vall de Núria — Elisabeth's pick, and it fits: a high cirque, a rack railway, and a hike on the first touring day. It's what pushed Ordesa off the route, though — Núria is at the far eastern end, Ordesa the far north-west
- La Seu d'Urgell — a long haul east from Castelldefels and maybe too much, but the only spot on the route with a confirmed music event (Seu Folk, Sun 30 Aug), so worth keeping in
- Graus (EMTP music encounter) — quick stop en route to Samitier; traditional-music festival (2026 dates still unconfirmed)
- Santa Maria d'Arties — a bit far, but stunning interior
- Congost de Mont-Rebei — now two nights on the route (Tue 1 / Wed 2 Sep), not a passing stop
- Ordesa Valley (Pradera de Ordesa) — off the route as of 26 Aug 2026, kept here as the obvious thing to switch back in if the plan changes
Alessio -- low priority¶
Actively unlikely to make the cut — kept here for the reasoning, not shown on the map above.
- Monasterio Nuevo de San Juan de la Peña — currently closed indefinitely (wildfire); separately, visitor feedback is mixed and the New Monastery itself is now mostly a modern interpretation center/hospedería rather than a historic highlight — the medieval architecture that makes this site famous is actually the Old Monastery, a distinct building.
- Castillo de Javier — largely reconstructed and looks more modern than medieval; not what the wishlist was after.
- Isaba — quite west, too far from the trip's actual focus area.
- Pamplona: Casco Viejo & Museo de Navarra — too far from the trip's actual focus area.
